Glass block walls
A glass block wall carries light from one side to the other without carrying the view with it. That is the whole reason to build one, and it is why they turn up in the same handful of places: around pools, between a shower and a bedroom, up a dark stairwell, and across a facade that would otherwise be a blank expanse of render.
Pool walls
The most common glass block wall we supply in Dubai. Blocks hold their colour and finish in constant sun and chlorinated splash, and a curved run reads as a single piece of water-coloured glass rather than a fence. Clear and linear patterns work best here, because you want the light moving rather than a pattern competing with the water.
Bathroom and shower partitions
A partition that lets an internal bathroom borrow daylight from the room next door. This is where frosted blocks earn their keep: light passes, outlines do not. It is the one application where the choice of pattern matters more for privacy than for looks, so it is worth telling us which side of the wall people stand on.
Exterior and feature walls
Boundary walls, entrance screens and villa facades. Coloured blocks do their most obvious work outdoors, because the colour is in the glass itself rather than a film or a coating, so it will not fade off a south-facing wall the way a tint would. At night the wall runs in reverse and lights the street.
Stairwells and internal light walls
Internal stairs and corridors are usually the darkest part of a villa and the hardest to open up, because there is nothing beyond them to look at. A glass block wall solves the light without creating a window onto a neighbour. Decorative and textured patterns suit this best — the wall is close enough to be read as a surface, so the pattern is doing visible work.
Buy the blocks, or have the wall built
Both. Contractors and fit-out firms usually take the blocks, the spacers and the fixing accessories and build it themselves. Homeowners more often want the wall finished, particularly for pools and wet areas where the detailing is unforgiving. One supplier for the blocks and the labour means nobody argues about whose fault a bad joint is.
